JANA Annual report launch
19 AUGUST 2024, BRISBANE
JANA launched its first Annual Report outlining how Australia can draw upon evolving global best practices in accountability for core international crimes through domestic process, including the exercise of universal jurisdiction. The Launch of the JANA Annual Report included a keynote speech by Ambassador (Professor) Beth Van Schaack, United States Ambassador for Global Criminal Justice. The Launch was Chaired by Professor Rain Liivoja, and the event was co-hosted by the Law School and the Asia Pacific Centre for the Responsibility to Protect at the University of Queensland, and the Justice and Accountability Network Australia (JANA).
The event was held at The University of Queensland.

Crimes against humanity & gender
2 OCTOBER 2024, BRISBANE
JANA and APCR2P co-hosted a panel discussion on the proposed international treaty on Crimes Against Humanity, the role such a treaty could play in atrocity prevention, and the link between accountability and the Responsibility to Protect.
The event explored the aspect of gender in crimes against humanity, including sexual and gender-based violence in Iraq and Syria and gender apartheid in Afghanistan. The keynote speaker was Sareta Ashraph from the Centre for Justice and Accountability (CJA). The panel included Azadah Raz Mohammad (Atlantic Council) and Ahmad Soliman (CJA).
The event was held at The University of Queensland, Brisbane.

1st Pacificjust network meeting
24-25 OCTOBER 2024, CANBERRA
JANA facilitated the launch of the 1st PacificJust Network Meeting held on 24 and 25 October 2024, in Canberra, Australia. Over 50 participants met to discuss current challenges and opportunities in the practice of accountability for core international crimes. Judicial and law enforcement practitioners from seven states and 14 different civil society organisations participated. Ambassador Stephen Rapp very kindly delivered the Inaugural Keynote Speech.
The inaugural PacificJust was held in Canberra, Australia’s capital.
